Marjorie Sandercock is an occupational therapist at Stanton Regional Hospital who travelled with CCI to Mogoditshane and other outlying villages in Botswana in 1993. She also spent "significant" time in Molepolole and Mochudi.

As with most Crossroaders who work in health-related fields, Marjorie was called upon to work in her area of expertise. She worked as an occupational therapist at the Cheshire Foundation's Mogoditshane Rehabilitation Centre. She was officially "on duty" from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, but often spent her evenings with the children in the residence, helping with dinner, bathtime and bedtime.

Marjorie worked both on site and in an outreach program which travelled to outlying villages. She also visited children in the local hospital and refugees at a local refugee centre.

Although she lived and worked at the centre during the week, Marjorie spent weekends with other Crossroaders living in other villages and living in Mogoditshane with Annah, the cook from the rehab centre. It was this time spent with Annah (who Marjorie calls her "mom") and her family in their daily life that Marjorie treasures most about her placement in Botswana. Other highlights from her placement include working with the children and returning to visit Annah and her family in 1995!

Marjorie's favourite experiences from her placement include sharing in the day-to-day life in Botswana, and laughing as she learned to do simple tasks (such as carrying water on her head or cooking porridge) which any child in Botswana has already mastered.

Marjorie was selected by the Yellowknife local committee of Canadian Crossroads International in the summer of 1992 for an overseas placement in 1993. She was one of three CCIers sponsored by the YK local committee that year, but the only one who has remained active with the local committee.

Since returning from her placement, Marjorie has been active with the local CCI committee. She also served as Botswana liaison from Sept. 1994 - Sept. 1997, assisting Crossroaders from across Canada as they prepared for their placements in Botswana. Marjorie also served on the national Overseas Placement Committee (OPC) during those years. OPC was responsible reviewing the files of about 130 CCIers who travel overseas each year & assigns placements in approximately 20 developing countries.

Marjorie has also been active in Yellowknife as the Chair of the Yellowknife United Church's Outreach Committee from Jan. 95 to May 1997 and with various other church activities. She was involved with the Yellowknife Committee of Save the Children - Canada from 1990 to 1996.

Her interests include skiing, kayaking, cycling, letter writing, bread making and visiting friends.
